Line a baking pan or lipped sheet with foil or parchment paper. Trust me, you'll be cleaning the pan for days if you don't. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Lightly salt and pepper each side of the breasts and put them on the baking sheet.
Evenly divide the ranch dressing and baste tops and sides of breast with dressing.
Evenly divide the shredded cheddar cheese and place on top of each breast, completely covering.
Place in oven, cook uncovered for 40 minutes or until internal temp of thickest part of chicken is 180 degrees.
Serve with steamed veggies or a wedge salad.
