My Low Carb Crutches

by Tiffany
(Deliciously Thin)

July 31, 2010
I have a confession this time...

I use coffee (with cream) and sunflower seeds in the shell as a crutch! (yes sometimes both at the same time)

Hungry...cup of coffee fixes that, when I really don't feel like eating. I love my coffee! I have a grind and brew coffee maker, and it's heaven! Seriously, nothing beats fresh ground coffee. I can't even drink that crap that comes from a convenience store anymore.

Bored...a bag of sunflower seed in the shells will keep my mouth busy for HOURS! It satisfies that need to snack on something. It's GREAT to take to the movie theaters (not that I ever get to go) but it will keep your hands out of the popcorn.

And look, the entire bag of sunflower seeds has 5 carbohydrates, 2 of which are from fiber, so 3 grams of effective carbohydrate count if you subtract the fiber (which I do.) Even if you don't - it's still a carb bargain.

Notice something else...ingredients = Sunflower seeds, salt. That's it! No preservatives, nothing funky! Yea!

So there you have it, my secret low carb crutches.

What are yours? Do you have something(s) you lean on to help you stay on track and to keep you from eating things you shouldn't? Or do you have an iron will and have no crutches at all? Drop me a line and let me know. I'd love to hear about it!

My Low Carb Crutches
by: Misty

Prior to beginning my low carb journey, I was a big night time snacker. Kind of like needing popcorn at the movies. Usually it was a combination of M&M's and popcorn mixed together....(mmmm what a lovely combination as I remember it)

How would I keep myself busy? I moved on to low carb chocolate. Here's my confession.....When I first began 10 years ago, the only chocolate bar available to me was the Darrell Lea chocolate bar from Australia. My addiction to chocolate carried over to the low carb chocolate bar.....I woke up one morning, got up and went to scoop up the wrapper remnants from the side of my bed and was horrified to see 8 yes EIGHT chocolate bar wrappers from the night before.......

Now, I must have an iron stomach because I did not have diarrhea like most..rather let's just say musical tunes coming from my body.....I won't go into detail but you can use your imagination on this one, I'm sure....

I decided I had to take control of what I have no control over so after several orders, several morning of disappointment in myself I decided mail order chocolate was not a good option for me.

I located Werthers sugar free caramel hard candy. This kept my mouth busy for at least 30 minutes at a time. I had found my answer! Fast forward to further nutrition education and that little addiction had to be squelched....the artificial sweetener education that is......

I've decided that I'm better off "dealing with it" and just like any other addiction, I'm over it.

Those are my confessions regarding chocolate.....I have more as in dieting we always do.....I'll jump in on this confession thing slowly!

A girl needs a little denial you know!

8 chocolate bars!
by: Tiffany

Misty-
This is crazy! Anybody who has tried the sugar free chocolates, can you imagine 8 full size bars? I can't!

But you opened a whole new can of worms - old food confessions - I have a lot of them! I think I'll dip into that slowly too!

Thanks for leaving your story!
XOXO-

chockie fix
by: Kym

Hi All,
I melt 100g of 'Green and Black's' 85% DARK chocolate bar with 100g of 'Banaban' coconut oil, set it into a pretty heart shaped silicone ice cube tray and keep them in the freezer. Sometimes i add a macadamia nut or almond in the centre for crunch.
It's a little indulgence which is not too naughty!
