The Atkins Plan was my final stop!

by Misty Humphrey
(California)

I feel so fortunate to have found the Atkins Plan.

My name is Misty and I am an 85 lb. weight loss maintainer and Low Carber for 10 years.

My story begins here:
On February 7th of 2000 I began a diet. Fast forward 10 years, and it is truly a lifestyle. Never did I imagine that I would be successful on a weight loss plan much less make it a lifestyle! A lifestyle? Now that was a new word to me. I must admit, in my lifetime, I have never followed through with anything except childbirth and that, only because I had no choice. Hey, I just wanted to lose weight! I wanted to be thin, and I wanted it now! I have been on many diets in my lifetime. Interestingly enough, many of my childhood struggles were finally figured out through my weight loss journey and nutrition education. I think this might be the most valuable self discovery I have ever experienced in my lifetime.

As a child I suffered ADHD and was generally about 15-20lbs. over weight. Mom had us on every fad diet there was from TWA Stewardess to Pritikin to Stillmans and yet I became more hyper, less focused and hungry.

As I moved out of the house at 17 and pregnant, that was my time to eat what I wanted! Ding Dong's here I come! And yes, I bought my very own box of ding dongs. I was obsessed with food. Low fat, diet pills, starvation and cigarettes and I couldn't figure out why I had no self control. I was an ADD statistic at this point.

Why can't I just exercise more and eat less?

Finally, I figured out that I was deficient in essential fatty acids! I know this now because 10 years later, I am still maintaining my weight and I am now a Certified Nutrition Educator, have more control than ever and most importantly, I'm not hungry.

Tiffany, thank you for this site! I look forward to experimenting with your recipes. We all need one another to keep going, pass ideas and swap knowledge!

After all, we're all in this together and as I tell everyone who thinks they can't give certain foods up:
"If I can do it, so can you!"

In good health!
